Their initial quality can’t stop sparking sparkling. Third year in a row that Kia has been the #1 Mainstream Brand for initial quality (within this survey). They would have had three straight years as the overall highest rated brand (within this survey) if Genesis didn’t edge them out.
Of course Hyundai’s luxury brand shares no platforms with Hyundai cars but all their platforms, powertrains, and design philosophies with Kia...soooo, Not-Kia’s luxury brand is doing well (within this survey)!

But the higher the score, the better!
- JLR, FCA, and VAG probably

Good Lord, there are literally only TWO Chrysler vehicles and they still can’t get it right.

Ever wonder how after decades of new management, new manufacturing techniques, total employee turnover, this list is mostly still the same as you would have expected in the 80s and 90s? Does nobody at Land Rover just slam their shoe on the desk and say ENOUGH?!
Except the Koreans, of course.

Land Rover won’t be satisfied until they have a 2:1 ratio

Mmm I don’t know. I’m a bit surprised at how poorly Japanese brands are doing overall according to this survey

Doesn’t matter. People will still buy Toyotas assuming they’re still top in quality.

I put more stock in the dependability study:

The Initial Quality study still counts old people that can’t figure out how to find their favorite polka station as a “problem”. As such, it’s becoming more of a measure of how user-friendly the infotainment systems are, and this is an area that FCA performs very well.
The Dependability study is longer term, and counts shit breaking. This is an area that FCA does poorly. This is the expected results of combining Fiat parts and Chrysler parts, in addition to noisy, leaking roofs on Wranglers because “It’s a Jeep thing, you wouldn’t under stand”.

Like others have said. Initial Quality is what the article is talking about.
Everyone says you don’t buy a Mini, You lease them.
They don’t hold together at all. Seems like every one we get through the body shop idles like garbage and feels like the motors going to fall out the bottom.

Good to see LR and Jag keeping up with their stereotypes. Just once I’d love to see them not at the bottom, or at least closer to the Industry Average.
Ford and GM, even FCA are looking good. Nice to see the American automakers doing well.

Yup... and it’s the ‘shit breaking’ thing I care more about.
Having said that, I would go with a used Chrysler over a used BMW
because even though the BMW
is ranked higher, it’s the cost and ease of repair of the shit that breaks that isn’t taken into account in these surveys.
